Looking at a map you will see that Rio Negro Uruguay is due east of Cordoba Argentina. This is very notable as this “band” of land running through central South America is the best agricultural region in the area, and likely the world. With the abundance of agriculture there is a huge population of birds, whether Duck, Dove, Pigeon or Perdiz. Anyone that is familiar with Dove hunting in South America likely knows about Cordoba Argentina but few know about the plethora of dove in Eastern Uruguay, so imagine the volume of Dove in Cordoba with 1/100th of the hunting pressure at San Cirilo!
San Cirilo is a luxurious lodge run by the Portela brothers who were born and raised in this area. After years of education and travel they came back home to pursue their passion of hunting and fishing. Sitting atop a hill with sweeping views of the Uruguayan countryside and the famous Rio Negro pigeon roost, San Cirilo Lodge serves as the ultimate retreat for hunters. Reconstructed before the 2009 mixed-bag season, the lodge offers uncommon luxuries and comforts. The lodge’s uniquely modern exterior can be deceiving; it functions beautifully as a hunting lodge. With six bedrooms and five bathrooms, the lodge can accommodate up to twelve hunters at a time. There is a grand living room and lounge, a separate dining area, a gun and tackle room and a popular outdoor fire pit with sitting area.
